Advanced Directives are NOT “living wills”. Advanced Directives are simply forms that you create to tell people what kind of medical interventions you want or do not want if you should end up in the hospital and unable to communicate.
Another little known fact is that Advanced Directives are very flexible. You can be very specific about what kinds of treatments and interventions a hospital can perform on you.
The only problem is every State’s rules are different. So if your Advanced Directive is not filled out correctly, then hospitals may not be able to honor your wishes, oviously to avoid getting sued.
